  The reporter of Economic Information Daily learned from the press conference of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology on September 14th that the scale and comprehensive strength of China’s consumer goods industry have been significantly enhanced since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, and the added value of consumer goods industry accounts for 27.9% of the national industry, with operating income and industry profit increasing by 35% and 64.5% respectively in the past decade. There are 150 consumer goods enterprises with a scale of 10 billion, and the export of light industry and textiles accounts for more than 30% of the world.

  Consumer goods industry is a traditional advantage industry and an important livelihood industry in China, covering all aspects of people’s daily necessities, education, medical care and health care, and playing an important role in meeting consumer demand, stimulating economic growth and expanding foreign trade exports. He Yaqiong, director of the Consumer Goods Industry Department of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, said that in the past decade, the number of enterprises in the consumer goods industry has increased by 23.7% to 172,000, accounting for 38.5% of the national industry; According to the regulations, the number of employees in enterprises is about 27 million, the level of intelligent development has been significantly improved, and the stability and overall competitiveness of the industrial chain supply chain have been continuously enhanced.

  The quality and level of production and supply of consumer goods continued to improve. At present, the market size of smart home appliances in China has increased from 200 billion yuan in 2016 to 500 billion yuan, and new types of home appliances such as dishwashers and sweepers have developed rapidly. Breakthroughs have been made in key components such as high-efficiency inverter compressors and ballpoint pens, and innovative products such as wearable smart devices and functional clothing are increasing.

  The reporter learned from the meeting that the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology will accelerate the implementation of the "three products" strategy of increasing varieties, improving quality and creating brands, continuously improve the supply capacity of consumer products and services, and continuously enhance the pulling effect of consumption on economic growth.

  Specifically, in terms of product innovation leading consumption upgrading, we will deepen the innovative application of the new generation of information technology, focus on people’s livelihood needs such as health, medical care, old-age care, child care and home care, promote product iterative updating with digital R&D design, accelerate independent innovation and create and lead consumption upgrading. Vigorously develop "consumer goods in internet plus", open up the data link between production and consumption, develop personalized customization and flexible production, promote efficient docking and accurate delivery of supply and demand, and cultivate a number of new products, fine products and famous products.

  In terms of digital transformation to help upgrade quality, we will speed up the construction of quality traceability system, strengthen the management of smart supply chain and realize the coordinated development of industrial chain in clothing, home appliances, food and medicine industries. Popularize and apply 300 typical enterprise cases, accelerate the cultivation of 200 intelligent manufacturing demonstration factories, focus on expanding 100 new consumption scenarios, and use modern information technology to enhance the consumption experience.

  In terms of upgrading the competitiveness driven by high-quality brands, we will continue to organize a series of "three products" nationwide activities, create 300 "three products" strategic demonstration cities, cultivate 200 well-known brands with a scale of 10 billion yuan, and enhance the core competitiveness of high-quality enterprises in China.

  It is worth mentioning that China’s position as a big light industry country has been continuously consolidated. In 2021, the added value of young industries accounted for 16.9% of the national industrial added value, and exports exceeded 900 billion US dollars; 290 light industry characteristic regions and industrial clusters have been formed, distributed in 24 provinces, accounting for 40% of the total industrial output value of enterprises above the scale of light industry, and have become the pillars of regional economy.
